Energy Law

Regulatory Affairs

Litigation

We have a dedicated team of experienced litigators at Islamabad, Lahore and Faisalabad offices. They have extensively dealt with matters relating to Regulatory Affairs, Constitution, Contract Law, Service Law, Civil Law, Family Law, Criminal law and Land law. Our senior lawyers assisted by young and talented associates and clerks have appeared before different Courts of law in more than 1000 cases. Dispute Resolution – Arbitration / Mediation

Two of our senior partners are internationally accredited mediators and have undergone specialized training in dispute resolution techniques and processes. As they have a strong foundation in law with prior experience as litigators in various areas of law, this allows them to understand underlying disputes and provide informed guidance to parties during mediation. We at all times maintain neutrality and impartiality throughout the mediation process and do not take sides or pitch for specific outcomes but instead facilitate constructive dialogue to help parties reach their own agreements. Our Partners are well-versed in the procedural aspects of arbitration, including initiating arbitration, selecting arbitrators, conducting hearings, presenting evidence, and enforcing arbitral awards. In transactional matters, we assist clients in drafting arbitration clauses within contracts to specify how disputes will be resolved in the event of a disagreement, ensuring clarity and enforceability. After favourably obtaining arbitral awards, we assist clients in enforcing these awards through judicial proceedings or other legal mechanisms, ensuring that the arbitration process culminates in effective dispute resolution.

Legislative Drafting

Legislative drafting is a specialized skill that requires a deep understanding of both law and language. We have highly experienced team of lawyers with legislative drafting experience who are often involved in drafting statutes, rules, regulations and policies at various levels of federal and provincial governments. Our senior lawyers have contributed in the drafting of over 50 federal and provincial laws. Our lawyers have a strong foundation in statutory interpretation, constitutional law, administrative law and regulatory affairs which equips them with translating government policy into a Parliamentary enacted law. Our lawyers are adept at using precise, clear, and unambiguous language in order to convey complex legal concepts in a straightforward manner and strive to acquaint themselves with policy objectives behind proposed legislation or regulations to ensure that the drafted text effectively achieves those goals. We have a proven track record of assisting Ministry of Law & Justice, Ministry of Human Rights, Governments of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan and various other public and private organizations on drafting instruments during the legislative process and wrote dozens of legislative advice and legal opinions arising out of such cases.

International Law

We are regularly instructed by various UN Agencies, international organizations, public bodies and prospective foreign investors to –

  1. conduct in-depth research on treaties, conventions, international agreements, and customary international law;
  2. assist in structuring and negotiating international business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and international trade agreements, while addressing legal issues arising from different legal systems and jurisdictions;
  3. work on human rights issues, representing individuals or organizations before international bodies like the United Nations Human Rights Council or domestic Courts;
  4. participate in diplomatic negotiations on behalf of governments, international organizations, or private entities, helping to shape treaties and agreements between countries.
  5. work directly with governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), or intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), providing legal advice on matters of international law, diplomacy, and policy;
  6. address legal issues related to sovereignty, state immunity and jurisdictional disputes between states.

Infrastructure

We have been fortunate enough to advise most prestigious and pioneering deals in the infrastructure projects, assisting government authorities and regulatory bodies, multinational corporations and multilateral institutions in projects across various sectors including airports, ports, freight corridors, highways, railways, refineries, pipelines, inland waterways and urban transportation in connection with a wide range of matters, from evolution of legal and regulatory frameworks, bidding and award of projects and in connection with development and financing of projects. Our team is actively involved in power projects, roads & highways, telecommunications, housing and development etc. It acts on international & regional matters providing support and advice on all aspects of a project including:

Competition Law

We advise clients on a full spectrum of competition law issues including reviewing potentially anti-competitive agreements, dominance and practices; competition audit of business practices and arrangements formulating and conducting compliance & training programs etc.

Taxation

We provide legal services for income/corporate taxation and sales tax. Our tax practice covers federal and professional excises, provincial sales taxes, professional and trade taxes, property taxes, and other local-government Our tax practice services include: transaction planning and restructuring; periodic review of accounting process and procedures; review of final accounts for tax provision and computation; preparation of the return and its annexure; handling assessment proceedings; appeals from CIT to Supreme Court; liaising with the Central Board of Revenue for finding administrative solutions to the controversial issues and seeking advance opinion of ambiguous statutory provisions; tax-effective salary structuring; and assisting the clients in ensuring timely and cost effective compliance such as withholding taxes and filing of periodical statements.
